Sod Calculator

Calculate the number of 10-square-foot sod rolls required for a rectangular lawn area.

Enter a valid length and width greater than zero.

Topsoil Calculator

Estimate the cubic yards of topsoil needed based on project area and desired installation depth.

Enter valid dimensions and a depth greater than zero.

Mulch Calculator

Calculate mulch for garden beds, tree rings and landscaped areas. A depth of approximately three inches is commonly used.

Enter valid dimensions and a depth greater than zero.

Stone Calculator

Estimate cubic yards and approximate metric tonnes for decorative stone, clear stone or granular base material.

Enter valid dimensions and a depth greater than zero.

Square Footage Calculator

Calculate the area of a rectangular lawn, garden bed, patio or landscape section.

Enter a valid length and width greater than zero.
Measure each section

Divide irregular areas into rectangles and calculate each section separately.

Allow for waste

Cuts, curves, settling and uneven depth can increase the final quantity.

Confirm material depth

Small depth changes can significantly affect cubic-yard requirements.

Material Ordering Recommendation

Always Account for Settlement & Compaction

We recommend ordering at least 15% extra material. Topsoil, mulch, sand and stone naturally settle and compact during installation and over time. Ordering a little extra helps maintain the intended finished depth and provides an allowance for uneven grades, compaction and minor measurement differences.

How the calculations work

Simple Measurements, Practical Estimates

These tools use standard area and volume formulas. Results are rounded to make ordering easier but do not replace an on-site assessment.

Square footage

Length in feet multiplied by width in feet equals total square feet.

Cubic yards

Square feet multiplied by depth in inches, divided by 324, equals cubic yards.

Sod rolls

Adjusted square footage divided by 10 equals the number of Sod Kings ten-square-foot rolls.

Calculator questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Should I order exactly what the calculator shows?
Order quantities are generally rounded upward. Additional material may be required for cuts, irregular shapes, settling, compaction, uneven grades or measurement errors.
How many square feet does one sod roll cover?
The sod calculator assumes one roll covers 10 square feet. Confirm the current product dimensions before ordering.
How much area does one cubic yard cover?
One cubic yard covers approximately 108 square feet at three inches deep, 162 square feet at two inches deep or 324 square feet at one inch deep.
Why is the stone weight only approximate?
Aggregate weight varies by product, particle size, moisture content, compaction and supplier specifications. The calculator uses general planning densities rather than guaranteed product weights.
Can Sod Kings confirm my measurements?
Installation estimates may include a project review or site assessment. Material-only customers remain responsible for confirming measurements and quantities before ordering.
